Kevin graduated in 1976 from the University of Pretoria and subsequently trained in Neurology obtaining his specialist M.Med degree in 1983 and his MD in 1990. He initially held joint posts of Senior Specialist in Neurology at the Pretoria Academic Hospital, and Senior Lecturer in Neurology at the University of Pretoria from 1984 to 1987.

In June 1987 he embarked on full time private practice and has held part-time academic appointments at the University of Pretoria to 1989, and the University of the Witwatersrand to 1993. Since 1993, he has been a part-time neurology consultant to the Department of Internal Medicine at the Helen Joseph Hospital, Johannesburg.

In 1992 has set up the first private sleep laboratory in South Africa. Kevin was a member of the Faculty Committee of the Faculty of Neurology of the College of Medicine of SA, 1989 to 1995. He is a member of the SA Medical Association, the Neurological Association of SA, held the post of Chairman of the Neurological Association of SA from 1987 to 1993 and from 2003 he has been the representative for NASA on the World Federation of Neurology.

He was elected Chairman of the Sleep Society of South Africa in 2002, a post he presently holds. He has published widely in the area of sleep and neurological disorders and is recognised as an expert in the field of sleep medicine.
